"Unretouched photo..." Page 68 credits [[Illinois State Historical Library]].
Of v2: "Goggle-eyed and well fed is Lincoln after his face was worked over by an artist. This often published variant shows an almost vapid President. The print in the [[National Archives]] is from the [[Herbert Wells Fay]] retouched cabinet-size negative."

Hamilton '63 [p 69] / Ostendorf '98 [p 69] recommend distinguishing A61a1 and A61a2 by the amount of hair visible at the back of Lincoln's head and the visibility of the cheek. The difference between the two images is said to be greater than a stereo exposure would give. Another method: the skin fold in Lincoln's left cheek abuts the tip of the nose in A61a2 and the underside of the nose in A61a1.
